Mourning Drums
Making space for life’s final beat.
Mourning Drums is a community-centered space for grief, remembrance, and end-of-life support. Rooted in the healing rhythm of drums and cross-cultural mourning traditions, we help individuals, families, and communities honor life’s final transitions with dignity, tenderness, and care.

A place for grief to be honored, not rushed.
Across cultures, drums have long carried the weight of mourning and transition. Their steady rhythm mirrors the heartbeat — the first rhythm we ever hear, and the last one we let go. Mourning Drums creates space for reflection, ritual, community, and compassionate support during life’s most vulnerable chapters.
How Mourning Drums Supports the Community
End-of-Life Support
Compassionate presence, reflection, and ritual for individuals and families navigating death, dying, and grief.
Pet Loss Support
Supportive spaces and remembrance rituals for honoring companion animals with dignity, tenderness, and love.
Community Education
Death Cafés, support groups, public memorials, and educational gatherings that help communities speak more openly about grief and loss.
The routines, bonds, and heartbeat of a beloved pet become part of a family’s daily life. Mourning Drums honors pet loss with the same depth and dignity given to any meaningful grief.
Because companion animals have rhythms too.
Meet Maren Turner
Maren Turner, PhD, MA, MS, created Mourning Drums from a lifelong belief that no one should have to die alone — not a person, and not a beloved animal. Her work brings together behavioral psychology, public service, end-of-life doula training, grief education, and compassionate presence.
